Why your ISP can see every site you visit - and what DNS over HTTPS does about it.

What Is DNS?

Every time you visit a website, your device performs a DNS lookup - translating a domain like google.com into an IP address. This happens thousands of times per day for every device on your network. By default these queries go in plain text to your ISP's DNS servers - meaning your ISP logs every site you visit.

DNS Over HTTPS

DoH encrypts your DNS queries so they cannot be read in transit. Instead of plain text going to Comcast, queries travel encrypted to a private resolver.

THE DIFFERENCE

Without DoH: your device sends plain text to Comcast DNS and Comcast logs it.
With DoH: your device sends encrypted queries through a private resolver and Comcast sees nothing.
