Harbor
Kids.

Family-safe DNS filtering for your child's devices. Set it up once, managed entirely by you.

How Harbor Kids Works ADD-ON

Harbor Kids is a $2.49/month add-on available on any Harbor Privacy plan. It adds a separate DNS filtering profile for your child's device — managed entirely by you — that blocks adult content, malware, and invasive ad networks before they reach your kid's screen.

There is nothing extra installed on your devices. It works at the DNS level, the same way your main Harbor Privacy protection does. Your child gets their own filtering profile with stricter blocklists and you control everything from your account.

WHAT HARBOR KIDS BLOCKS

Adult content, gambling, drugs, violence, malware, phishing, and invasive ad networks — all filtered before they load. Uses AdGuard's Family Protection blocklist, one of the most comprehensive available.

ACCOUNT STRUCTURE

Harbor Kids is a sub-profile under your main account. Your child does not have their own login. Everything is managed by you. Harbor Kids requires an active Harbor Privacy account.

Device Setup

Setup takes about 5 minutes per device. Each platform includes a step to lock the protection so your child can't remove it without your password.

📱 iPhone & iPad

01
Open the setup link in SafariYour Harbor Kids onboarding email has a profile download link. Open it in Safari on your child's device — not Chrome or Firefox.
02
Download the profileTap Allow when Safari asks to download. Nothing installs yet — it just saves the file.
03
Install the profileGo to Settings → General → VPN & Device Management. Tap the Harbor Kids profile and tap Install. Enter the device passcode if prompted.
04
Lock with Screen TimeGo to Settings → Screen Time → Turn On Screen Time. Set a Screen Time passcode your child does not know. This prevents profile removal without your password.
KEEP YOUR SCREEN TIME PASSCODE SAFE

If you forget it, removing the profile requires a full device reset. Store it in a password manager or somewhere secure.

🖥 Mac

01
Open the setup link in SafariOpen the profile download link from your Harbor Kids email in Safari on the Mac.
02
Install the profileOpen System Settings → Privacy & Security → Profiles. Double-click the downloaded file and click Install.
03
Lock with Screen TimeGo to System Settings → Screen Time. Enable Screen Time and set a passcode your child doesn't know. Turn on Content & Privacy Restrictions.

🪟 Windows

01
Get your child's DNS addressFind your child's Harbor Kids DNS address in your dashboard under Harbor Kids — Your Child Profiles. It will look like: doh.harborprivacy.com/dns-query/youridkid1
02
Set DNS in WindowsGo to Settings → Network & Internet → Wi-Fi → click your network → Edit next to DNS server. Enter your child's Harbor Kids address from your dashboard. This routes their DNS through Harbor Privacy filtering.
02
Remove admin rightsGo to Settings → Accounts → Family & other users. Click your child's account and change type to Standard User. This is the most important step — without it they can change DNS settings themselves.

🤖 Android

01
Set Private DNSGo to Settings → Network & Internet → Private DNS. Select Private DNS provider hostname and enter: family.adguard-dns.com. Tap Save. On Samsung: Settings → Connections → More connection settings → Private DNS.
02
Lock device settingsGo to Settings → Digital Wellbeing & Parental Controls. Set up parental controls with a PIN your child does not know.
A NOTE ON TAMPER RESISTANCE

No filtering system is completely bypass-proof — a factory reset wipes any profile. Harbor Kids raises the bar high enough that casual attempts don't work. For most families, a password-protected profile plus the social consequence of explaining a factory reset to a parent is more than enough.

Harbor Kids Client ID

When Harbor Kids is set up, your child's device gets its own client ID in our system. This keeps their traffic separate from yours in the dashboard and makes troubleshooting easy.

HOW CLIENT IDS WORK

Your main account has a client ID like timothy1234. Your child's Harbor Kids profile is timothy1234-kid1. A second child would be timothy1234-kid2. No names are stored — just your account ID with the kid number appended. Easy to spot in the dashboard without any personal information about your child.

Harbor Kids — FAQ

Can my child remove Harbor Kids protection?
On iPhone and iPad, not without your Screen Time passcode. On Mac, same. On Windows, not if their account is Standard User. On Android, parental controls add a significant barrier. No system is 100% tamper-proof — a factory reset wipes everything — but Harbor Kids makes casual removal impossible.
Will Harbor Kids block YouTube or educational sites?
No. AdGuard's Family Protection blocklist is tuned to block adult content and threats without touching legitimate platforms. If something your child needs for school gets blocked, contact us and we'll whitelist it for their profile specifically.
Can I see what my child is browsing?
You can see domain names in the query log — so you'd know youtube.com was visited but not which videos. Harbor Kids is about protection, not surveillance.
Does Harbor Kids work away from home?
On iPhone and iPad yes — the DNS profile works on cellular and any WiFi. On Android, Private DNS also works everywhere. Windows and Mac are only filtered on your home network unless additional setup is done.
Can I add Harbor Kids for multiple children?
Yes. Each child gets their own sub-profile (kid1, kid2, etc.) at $2.49/month each. Email support@harborprivacy.com to add additional profiles.
What happens if I cancel my main plan?
Harbor Kids requires an active Harbor Privacy account. If your main plan is cancelled, Harbor Kids is cancelled automatically. You'll need to remove the profile from your child's device manually.
